Rising Israeli guitarist Ron Magril releases his debut album Until Now on Ubuntu Music on May 27
Until now is the debut album by Israeli guitarist and composer, Ron Magril and features leading Israeli musicians Avshalom Meidan at the piano, Oren Hardy on the double bass and Ofri Nehemyathe internationally renowned drummer who performs with Shai Maestro, Ben Wendel and bassist Avishai Cohen.“Working with Avshalom, Oren and Ofri was like a dream come true for me and I think our lifelong friendship helped us find our sound as a band.
Magril’s eight original compositions combine a love and understanding for the jazz tradition, especially Hard Bop, with his own distinctive sound. Standout tracks include “Africa,” a tribute to McCoy Tyner, and the poignant “Meaningful Moments,” which celebrates key moments in Magril’s life during the pandemic, including the conception of her son. On a lighter note, Magril wrote “It’s the Cops” in his first month in New York.. “Every time I played the guitar, or even listened to music, I had problems with my neighbour,” Magril explains. “After a big fight I saw a police car on the street and thought he called them because of me!”
“I really believe that Until now describes exactly who I am as a musician and as a human being,” says Magril. “When the pandemic started, I had to leave my new home in New York, suspend my studies for a while and return to Tel Aviv, my hometown. Those days were hard for me. Feeling this emptiness and this depression made me realize how passionate I was about recording and playing my music live, and I knew it was finally the right time for me to record my first album and play my music again.
